titleOfInvention | Chroman derivatives and their use as antioxidants |
abstract | 1,201,796. Chroman derivatives; stabilizing vitamin A. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 19 Oct., 1967 [20 Oct., 1966], No. 47602/67. Headings C2C and C2V. [Also in Division C5] The compound where R is alkyl is made by dissolving an alkyl-substituted hydroquinone in acetic acid containing a Lewis acid catalyst and adding 2,5-dimethyl-2,4-hexadiene keeping the temperature between 30‹ and 120‹ C. A small amount of sulphuric acid is added to facilitate cyclization. The resulting 4-isopropyl-2,2-dimethyl-7-alkyl-6 hydroxychroman may be used as an antioxidant for gasoline, lard and vitamin A. |
