titleOfInvention | Microbiological production of high protein compositions |
abstract | 1,201,638. Protein source. CHINESE PETROLEUM CORP. 2 April, 1969, No. 17419/69. Heading A2B. [Also in Divisions C5 and C6] A composition rich in protein is obtained by submerged culturing the micro-organism ATCC 21174 (Pseudomonas) in an equeous medium containing sources of carbon, nitrogen and trace elements, and recovering the cells. (The micro-organism is stated to possess an enzyme which will emulsify hydrocarbon and aqueous solutions.) The carbon source may be (1) a hydrocarbon or (2) a carbohydrate. Hydrocarbon: keroseen, gas oil, fuel oil, crude oil, normal paraffin or natural gas (methane). The micro-organism preferentially takes in C 18 -C 22 hydrocarbon compounds from C 3 -C 24 paraffin mixtures. Branched chain paraffins, olefines, cyclic paraffins and aromatic hydrocarbons are also mentioned. Carbohydrates: molasses, glucose and starch hydrolysate. Nitrogen source may be urea, ammonium sulphate, nitrate or chloride, or aqueous ammonia solution. Trace elements include potassium, phosporus, magnesium, iron and manganese. The protein composition obtained i.e. dried cells of ATCC 21174, is an odourless, tasteless and slightly yellowish powder which may be blended with wheat flour or rice flour. |
