titleOfInvention Improvements in and relating to the production of metal carbonyls
abstract 1,201,083. Hydroformylation. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 25 March, 1968 [19 April, 1967], No. 18007/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division Cl] A process for the hydroformylation of olefines in which the hydroformylation product containing an aldehyde (e.g. butyraldehyde) and a compound of a Group VIII metal (preferably the hydroformylation catalyst) is reacted with an aqueous solution of a carboxylic acid to give a two-phase product, the aqueous layer containing metal acetate which is in contact with an aldehyde, after at least partial separation of the organic layer containing aldehyde, is treated with CO+H 2 at elevated temperature and pressure which yields Group VIII metal carbonyl in solution of aldehyde and this is recycled as the hydroformylation catalyst. A specified metal is cobalt; specified acids are acetic, propionic and butyric; a specified olefin to be hydroformylated is propylene.
