A water - dispersible composition comprises 5-25 parts by weight of a therapeutically effective water-insoluble nitrofuran having a particle size of less than 15 microns, the particles being coated with dried, partially hydrolysed gelatin in the amount of 100 parts by weight, the composition being in the form of a finely divided powder having an average particle size of less than 60 mesh and a bulk density of 0.1-0.5 gm./cc. The composition tray also comprise a water -soluble sugar and a chelating agent. Suita'ble nitrofurans are nitrofurazone, furazolidone and nihydrazone. The preparation of the oompositions is also described.
