abstract 1,196,666. Injection moulding apparatus. CRYPLEX INDUSTRIES Inc. 28 June, 1967 [28 June, 1966], No. 29768/67. Heading B5A. Apparatus for moulding liquid thermosetting resins comprises an actuator 148 for moving an injection nozzle 144 into engagement with a recess 145 formed by a pair of mould plates 126, 128, the nozzle 144 being connected to a cylinder 155 provided with a piston 156 which is moved in one direction to draw liquid resin from a reservoir 154 into the cylinder 155, and in the other direction to inject the resin into the mould cavities 130. Check valves 164, 168 are included in conduits 162, 166 connecting the cylinder 155 to the reservoir 154 and nozzle 144 respectively. A stretchable strip 132 may be fed between the mould plates 126, 128 in predetermined lengths and may comprise a film made of polyvinyl alcohol, cellulose acetate, cellulose acetate butyrate or cellulose triacetate. As the mould plates close on the strip air may be withdrawn from the mould cavities through a conduit 180 connected to a vacuum pump. The invention may be applied to the moulding of buttons, toys or jewellery, or to the encapsulating of small electrical components in polyester and eposy resins. The inserts may be positioned in the cavities by jigs or strips of material carrying the inserts in predetermined position.
