abstract | 1,196,087. Adhesive composition. POLYMER CORP Ltd. 27 March, 1968 [19 April, 1967], No. 14791/68. Heading C3P. An adhesive composition comprises a dispersion in a volatile organic liquid of a mixture of a cross-linked polymer of isobutylene, an elastomer and a tackifying resin, the polymer containing at least 20% by weight of gel. The amount of organic liquid present is preferably not less than 80% by weight of the composition. The proportion of tackifying resin to crosslinked polymer is preferably between 0À25:1 to 10: 1 by weight. The elastomer may be a butadiene-styrene copolymer present in from 1/3 to not more than 5 parts per part of cross-linked copolymer. In the examples, a copolymer of isobutylene, isoprene and divinyl benzene is dispersed in toluene and a butadiene-styrene copolymer, wood rosin and an antioxidant added thereto. Instead of wood rosin, an alkyl phenol aldehyde resin may be used. In some examples, butyl rubber and a butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer is used instead of the butadiene styrene copolymer. |
