titleOfInvention Hormone-Like Preparations Derived from Thymus Gland and Methods of Producing the Same.
abstract 1,195,980. Active thymus gland extracts. YESHIVA UNIVERSITY. 17 Aug., 1967 [24 Aug., 1966], No. 37903/67. Heading A5B. Hormone-like extracts of thymus gland called "Thymosin" and "anti-thymosin" are obtained by homogenising thymus glad tissue in saline, centrifuging and treating the supernatant with acetone after heating to 100‹C. for 15 minutes to produce a precipitate containing the thymosin and a supernatant containing the antithymosin. The precipitate may be worked up by passing its solution in 0.15M NaCl through a polyacrylamide gel column, lyophilization of the percolate and fractionation of a solution thereof in phosphate buffer on a DEAE-cellulose column. The supernatant may be worked up by passage of an aqueous solution of the lyophilizate thereof through a polyacrylamide gel column. "Thymosin" is stated to stimulate lymphoid tissue proliferation, "anti-hymosin" to have the opposite effect.
