titleOfInvention | Oxychlorination Catalyst Composition. |
abstract | 1,195,950. Oxychlorination process. FMC CORP. 5 Aug., 1968 [30 Aug., 1967], No. 37211/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division B1] Oxychlorination of hydrocarbons is effected by reacting a C 1-4 hydrocarbon or partially chlorinated derivative thereof with an oxygen containing gas and hydrogen chloride and/or chlorine at 325‹ to 600‹ C. in the presence of a catalyst comprising (a) CuCl 2 , (b) KCl, (c) ZrCl 4 or ZrOCl 2 and (d) SiO 2 gel having a surface area of 150 m<SP>2</SP>/gm. and an average pore size of 60 Š, the catalyst containing (1) 1.5 to 35% of (a), (b) and (c), (2) K : Cu of 0.6 : 1 to 3 : 1 and (3) Zr : Cu of at least 1 :1. Specified hydrocarbons and hydro-halocarbons are methane, ethane, ethylene, propylene, propane, dichlorethane, tetrachlorethane, vinyl chloride, dichlorethylene and butane. Examples describe the oxychlorination of ethylene to yield tri- and per-chlorethylene. |
