[Also in Division C5] Linear straight chain alkyl benzene sulphonic acids of predominently C 11 and C 12 alkyl chains are obtained by contacting the linear alkyl benzene flowing in a thin annular stream, having an average MW of 236, boiling range 271-313‹ C. in a moving film sulphonation apparatus similar to that described in Specification 1,007,994, with a sheet like stream of a gaseous mixture of sulphur trioxide and air containing about 4% SO 3 by volume, while maintaining the reactants at a temperature between 20‹ and 100‹ C. |
