titleOfInvention | Organophosphines and Organophosphine Compositions having Keratin-Deforming Properties |
abstract | 1,192,603. Depilatory. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. 10 April, 1967 (2 May, 1966 (2)], No. 116348/67. Heading A5B. (Also in Division C2 and D1] A composition for the depilation of keratin fibres, e.g. human hair, comprises, in an acceptable vehicle, a tertiary phosphine having one of the formulae:- wherein R and R<SP>1</SP> are the same or different and each is alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are each hydrogen or alkyl, R<SP>3</SP> is alkyl or CH 2 Z, R<SP>5</SP> is hydrogen, alkyl or CH 2 Z, Z is OH, unsubstituted amino or COOH and all the Z's in a given compound need not be the same, n is an integer from 1 to 5, m is O '1 or 2 with the proviso that m is 1 or 2 when R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are both hydrogen and s and q are integers which are never "the same nor are they less than 1 and the sum of s and q is an integer from 3 .to 9, the concentration of the phosphine in the vehicle being at least 0.01 molar and with the proviso that the vehicle does not consist solely of water or an acceptable common organic solvent when the phosphine is one in which (a) is Formula I, Z is OH when n is 1, and R is allkyl when Z is OH 'and n is 2, and (b) in Formula IV Z is OH when n is 1 and (c) when ,the phosphine is tris (2-hydroxypropyl) phosphine. Suitable vehicles for the phosphine are water, poly hydric alcohols, ethanol, isopropanol and the monoethyl ether of ethylene 'glycol, or a cosmetically acceptable cream base. In an example in composition containing bis(hydroxmethy) methyl phosphine, polyoxyethylene (10) cetyl ether, stearyl alcohol-ethylene oxide condansation product, and water, adjusted to pH 12:5, is used for the depilation of laboratory tresses made of human hair.
