titleOfInvention | Production of Metalliferous Phthalocyanines |
abstract | 1,192,142. Preparation of metal phthalocyanines. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK A.G. 13 Sept., 1968 [16 Sept., 1967], No. 43659/68. Heading C4P. Metal phthalocyanines are prepared by contacting a gaseous phthalonitrile containing reaction mixture (formed by catalytic oxidation of a compound of general formula wherein X is alkyl or cyano or may form a benzene ring with Y, and Y is alkyl or may form a benzene ring with X, and may bear halogen substituents, with oxygen and ammonia at 300‹ to 500‹ C.) with an inert solvent at above 100‹ C., the solvent being liquid at the treatment temperature, adding to the liquid mixture obtained a metal salt Œ a nitrogen base and heating to 140‹ to 250‹ C. to form the metal phthalocyanine. The starting material may be o-xylene, o-toluonitrile or naphthalene and solvents mentioned include chlorobenzene, trichlorobenzene, benzonitrile, naphthalene, otoluonitrile, and nitrobenzene. Copper, aluminium, iron, vanadium and manganese salts and mixtures thereof are used. The example describes an apparatus for contacting the gaseous reaction mixture with the solvent in countercurrent flow. |
