titleOfInvention New Benzhydryl Ethers and process for their preparation
abstract 1,192,127. 3-Quinuclidinyl benzhydryl ethers. ASTRA A.B. 3 Oct., 1968 [5 Oct., 1967], No. 47065/68. Heading C2C. Novel 3-quinuclidinyl benzhydryl ethers of the general formula wherein R and R<SP>1</SP> are each a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C 1-5 alkyl or C 1-5 alkoxy group, and therapeutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof are prepared by reaction of a quinuclidine derivative of the general formula with a diphenylmethane derivative of the general formula wherein X and Y are atoms or groups capable of reacting with each other, or X is an atom or group capable of reacting with the dizao group, with the formation of an ether-bridge between the 3-quinuclidinyl and benzhydryl groups, followed optionally by salification. Diphenyldiazomethane is prepared by reaction of benzophenone hydrazone with mercuric oxide. Pharmaceutical compositions having anticholinergic activity comprise, as active ingredient, at least one 3-quinuclidinyl benzhydryl ether of the first general formula above or therapeutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof, together with a pharmaceutical carrier.
