abstract 1,187,613. Sulphapyrimidines. J. R. GEIGY A.G. 12 April, 1967 [13 April, 1966], No. 16759/67. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of formula (wherein R 1 and R 2 are each H, halo, C 1-3 alkyl, C 1-3 alkoxy or cyclopropyl, and R 3 is H, C 1-3 alkyl, C 1-3 alkoxy or cyclopropyl, one of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 always being cyclopropyl) are prepared by reduction of compounds of formula (wherein X is a group reducible to NH 2 ) or by selective hydrolysis of a compound of this formula wherein X is a substituted methyleneamino group. Compounds of Formula II are prepared by acetylation of compounds of formula the latter compounds being in turn obtained by reacting a compound of Formula III with a compound of Formula IV or V (wherein one of A 1 and A 2 is NH and the other a direct bond, and Y and Z are reactive radicals which can be cleaved together). Compounds of Formulae IV and V are prepared as described in Specifications 1,187,612, 1,136,686 and 1,059,719. The compounds of Formula I are said to possess antibacterial activity, and may be made up with inert carriers into pharmaceutical compositions suitable for oral administration.
