A process for producing enzymes that can lyse the cells of microorganisms comprises culturing a microorganism belonging to Cytophaga johnsonii, Cytophaga sp. L-11 ATCC 21238, Cytophaga sp. ATCC 21119, Cytophaga sp. ATCC 21120, Cytophaga sp. ATCC 21121 or Cytophaga sp. ATCC 21122 and capable of producing cytolytic enzymes of microorganisms under aerobic conditions in a nutrient medium containing as additives the cells of other microorganisms or decomposates thereof, accumulating said enzymes in the resultant culture liquor and recovering the cytolytic enzymes therefrom. The enzyme may be used in the form of the centrifuged nutrient liquor or may be concentrated, precipitated, e.g. with acetone or salted out, e.g. with ammonium sulphate. |
