abstract | 1,186,711. Direct positive emulsions. EASTMAN KODAK CO. March 10, 1967 [March 11, 1966, Jan.17, 1967], No.11291/67. HeadingG2C. Direct positive silver halide emulsions comprising fogged silver halide grains are characterised in that (i) at least 80% by weight and/or at least 80% by number of said grains are constituted by crystals free from twin-plane stacking faults i. e. the grains are regular and (ii) an electron acceptor is adsorbed on the surface of said grains. The emulsions may be mono disperse as described in Specification 1,186,712. The grains may be fogged so that they satisfy the chemical bleach test of Specification 1,186, 713 e.g. with a noble metal and reduction fogging agent. Specified reduction fogging agents are thiourea dioxide, hydrazine, tetra (hydroxymethyl) phosphonium chloride, stannous chloride, triethylene tetramine diethylene triamine, spermine and bis (#-amino ethyl) sulphide and its water-soluble salts. Specified noble metal fogging agents are potassium chloroaurite, potassium aurithiocyanate, potassium chloroaurate, auric trichloride and 2-auro sulpho benzo thiazole methochloride, and ammonium hexachloropolladate. The electron acceptor may spectrally sensitize in the range 480mÁ - 800mÁ as described in Specification 1,186, 714 e. g. where A and B represent A-L=L-L=B a 2- aromatically substituted indole nucleus, attached to the methine chain through the 3-carbon atom of the indole nucleus and # is a methine group, dyes as described in Specification 1,186,716, other methine dyes containing pyrrolo pyridine, indole, pyrazole and imidazo [4, 5-6] quinoxaline nuclei, and cyanine and merocyanine dyes containing nitro substituents. The electron acceptors specified also include halogenated cyanines as described in Specification 1,186,715 and many other compounds e.g. 5-mnitro benzylidene rhodanine. The emulsions may contain incorporated developers and may be used in a negative silver dye bleach process or dye developer transfer processes. The emulsions are prepared by a procedure in which an aqueous solution of a silver salt and an aqueous solution of a halide are simultaneously run into a solution of a protein peptizer at a pH less than 4 and a pAg of 7.1 to 9.2. |
