titleOfInvention Method of Inhibiting Bacterial and Fungal Growth in Liquid Hydrocarbons
abstract 1,186,648. Preventing corrosion by liquid hydrocarbon fuels and hydraulic fluids. CLEVELAND TECHNICAL CENTER Inc. 22 Aug., 1968 [22 Aug., 1967], No. 40198/68. Headings C5F and C5G. [Also in Division C7] A liquid hydrocarbon is stored in the form of a two-phase liquid system comprising a first continuous phase of liquid hydrocarbon, and a second continuous phase, contiguous with the first, consisting of a 0À005-0À2% by wt. aqueous solution of sodium chromate which inhibits the growth of bacteria and/or fungi on the metal surface with which the stored hydrocarbon is in contact. The liquid hydrocarbon may be a fuel, for example a kerosene-type jet engine or diesel fuel or gasoline or a home-heating oil, or it may be an hydraulic fluid.
