titleOfInvention Protective Coating for Metal Surfaces
abstract 1,185,846. Protection of metal surfaces. FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 7 Oct., 1968 [5 Oct., 1967], No. 45554/67. Heading C1M. A method for the protection of metal surfaces during heat treatment comprises applying thereto, prior to heating, a coating composition comprising a ceramic or glass frit, water, a suspending agent and a refractory silicate material. The silicate material may be a clay, feldspar or pyrophyllite, and the suspending agent is preferably sodium carboxymethylcellulose or gum tragacanth. Oxidizable material, e.g. aluminium or ferrosilicon, may be included in the composition. The composition may also contain a particulate refractory material such as silica, magnesia, alumina or zinc oxide; chromic oxide and a wetting agent such as sodium dioctyl sulphosuccinate may also be present. Examples of suitable glass frits are given. The coefficients of thermal expansion differ considerably so that, on cooling, the glaze spalls off. Specification 1,159,641 is referred to.
