titleOfInvention | Salicylanilide Derivatives, their preparation and Compositions containing them |
abstract | 1,183,641. Anthelmintic & antibacterial compositions. MERCK & CO. Inc. 5 June, 1967 [7 June, 1966; 19 Aug., 1966; 28 April, 1967], No. 25762/67. Headings A5B and A5E. (Also in Divisions C2 and C5] Compositions comprise, as active ingredient having anthelmintic and antibacterial properties, a salicylanilide derivative of the general formula wherein R 1 is a hydrogen atom or an acyl radical; Y is a halogen atom or a hydroxy, haloalkyl, C 1-5 alkyl, C 1-5 alkoxy or nitro radical; each of X and X 1 is a halogen atom or an alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, halogenated alkoxy, halogenated alkylthio, nitro, cyano, hydroxy, amino, alkylamino or alkanoylamino radical; Q is an oxygen or sulphur atom or a sulphinyl, sulphonyl, alkylene, alkyleneoxy, carbonyl or carbamoyl radical; R is a hydrogen atom, a C 1-5 alkyl radical or an alkanoic acid residue and each n is 0, 1, 2 or 3, ring C being linked to either the 3- or 4-position of ring B; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, together with an inert carrier, diluent or coating and, optionally, an effective amount of a second anthelmintic or antibacterial compound. The compositions may take the form of an animal feedstuff, feed premix, tablet, bolus, capsule, drench, germicide, deodorant, disinfectant, dusting powder, cream, lotion, cosmetic or parenterally administerable solution. Specified pharmaceutically acceptable salts are those formed with metals, e.g. sodium, potassium, calcium, copper and iron, and amines, e.g. pyridine, piperazine, methylamine and ethanolamine. Examples of a second anthelmintic compound are thiabendazole, tetramisol, an organo-phosphorus compound, piperazine, phenothiazine or certain antimony compounds. Examples of a second antibacterial compound are sulphonamides, certain penicillin preparations or certain antibiotics. |
