Adrenalin is obtained by the following synthesis :-(1) diacetylprotocatechuic aldehyde, prepared by the reaction of acethy chloride or acetic anhydride on protocatechuic aldehyde, is condensed with nitromethane in the presence of weak inorganic or organic bases ; (2) the resulting diacetyldioxyphenylnitroethanol is reduced in the presence of formaldehyde by means of zinc dust and acetic acid; (3) the diacetyladrenalin so formed is saponified by hydrochloric acid, giving adrenalin hydrochloride. |
