titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to Stabilizing Synthetic Resins
abstract 1,182,220. Stabilizing P.V.C. CHEMISCHE FABRIEK N.V. v/h DR. A. HAAGEN. 7 Oct., 1968 [6 Oct., 1967], No. 47511/68. Heading C3P. Halogen-containing resins, e.g. P.V.C., are stabilized with a mixture of a calcium alkoxy benzoate and a zinc salt of an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid; optionally a calcium aliphatic monocarboxylate or calcium benzoate may also be present. There may also be added a polyol of the formula RCH 2 C(CH 2 OH) 8 may be added in which R is alkyl, alkoxy, hydroxy alkyl or alkoxy hydroxy alkyl, a phenolic antioxidant, an organic phosphite or a sulphur compound. A stabilizer composition may comprise the metal salts, polyol and a solvent, e.g. aromatic hydrocarbons boiling in the range 160-180‹ C., glycol monobutyl ether, heptanol or octanol. Salts used in the examples are calcium o-, m- and p-methoxy benzoate, calcium benzoate and oenanthate, zinc laurate and a-ethyl caproate.
