titleOfInvention | Arylene Phosphinites |
abstract | 1,181,170. Arylene polyphosphinites. MONSANTO CO. 13 Dec., 1967 [13 Dec., 1966], No. 56706/67. Addition to 1,164,835. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C5] The invention comprises compounds of the formula R(OPR<SP>1</SP> 2 ) n wherein R is a polyvalent arylene group, the R<SP>1</SP> groups are each a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl group or a heterocyclic group attached to the P atom by a C atom thereof or both groups together with the adjacent phosphorus atom form a heterocyclic group, and n is an integer from 2 to 10. They are prepared by reacting a polyol compound of formula R(OH) n with either (a) an aminophosphine of formula R<SP>1</SP> 2 -P-N-R<SP>11</SP> 2 wherein the -NR<SP>11</SP> 2 group is the residue of ammonia or of a primary or secondary amine which has a lower boiling point than the polyol compound, or (b) a compound of formula (R<SP>1</SP> 2 P) x N(R<SP>11</SP>) y where x is 1, 2 or 3 and the sum of x and y is 3. The arylene group R may contain a number of fused or directly or indirectly linked benzene rings which may be substituted (e.g. by alkyl, alkoxy, silyl or siloxy groups or by fluorine) and includes such groupings as arylene-R*-arylene where R* is an aliphatic group which may be ethylenically or acetylenically unsaturated, and arylene-X- arylene where X is O, S, -S-S-, SO or SO 2 . Specified R<SP>1</SP> groups are alkyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl, tolyl, 2,4,5-trimethylphenyl, 1-naphthyl, trifluoromethyl, perfluoropropyl, 2- and 4 - chlorophenyl, pentafluorophenyl, 4 - nitrophenyl, 4 - dimethylaminophenyl, 4 - bromophenyl, 4-methoxyphenyl, vinyl and trifluorovinyl. Examples of the case when the two groups R<SP>1</SP> together with the phosphorus atom form a hetero-cyclic ring are phosphatetrafluorocyclopentane and 5,10-dihydro-10-chlorophenophosphazine. |
