Novel indole-2-carboxamides of the formula in which R is H, C 1-6 alkyl, halogen or CF 3 ; R 1 is H, C 1-6 alkyl or C 2-6 alkenyl; R 2 , R 3 , R 4 and R 5 are H, or C 1-6 alkyl; and n is 1 to 4 and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof are prepared by reacting a reactive derivative of the appropriate indole-2-carboxylic acids with the corresponding N-(aminoalkyl) morpholines; or by reacting indole-2- carboxamides of the formula with morpholine derivatives of the above formula in which X is reactive halogen, C 1-6 alkylsulphonyloxy or arylsulphonyloxy in inert solvents and in the presence of condensing agents; or by reacting in inert solvents indole- 2-carboxamides of the formula with the corresponding morpholine derivatives. Compounds in which n is 1 may also be prepared by refluxing mixtures of the appropriate indole- 2-carboxamides, formaldehyde, morpholine and ethanol. N - (3 - Bromopropyl) - 6 - chloroindole - 2 - carboxamide and N- (2-bromoethyl)-6-chloroindole. 2-carboxamide are prepared by reacting 6-chloroindole-2-carbonyl chloride, obtained by treating the corresponding acid with thionyl chloride, with 3-bromopropylamine hydrobromide and 2- bromoethylamine hydrobromide respectively. Pharmaceutical compositions, suitable for oral or parenteral administration and having antidepressant properties, contain the above novel compounds or pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof as active ingredients and pharmaceutically acceptable carriers. |
