abstract 1,178,748. Sliding windows; double glazing. ARCHITAL LUXFER Ltd. 18 Aug., 1967, No. 38189/67. Headings E1J and E1R. A window assembly comprises a frame 10, 11, 12, 13 of extruded aluminium or plastics or plastics covered aluminium with mullion 14 affording two openings, one of which 10, 11, 12, 14 is closed by a fixed glazing and the other opening, viz 10, 11, 13, 14 includes a sliding panel 16 and a top hung vent 17, the sliding panel being adapted to slide on the outer side of the fixed glazing from a closed position into a position in which it at least partly overlaps the fixed glazing and the vent 17 opens outwardly. The top and bottom guides of the sliding panel have downwardly directed channels 27, 31 in which a lunge of the top rail 20 of the panel and a bracket 30 on the lower rail engage, the channel 31 being attached individually and the sill 11 and the channel 27 being accommodated in a channel in the head 10. The vent 40 is hinged to the sliding sash at 36, 37 and is provided with weather seal strips 60. Seal strips 50, 51 are provided on the sliding sash. The glazing 41 is held in the respective sash frames by flexible extruded snapin beading 43, and in either the case of the glazing 41 or the vent, the beading 43 may be provided with an angle flange 45 to accommodate an additional pane (not shown) which may rest on the internal faces of the frames and be secured in any appropriate manner, to convert the single glazing to double glazing. Stop means (Fig. 4) are provided on the lower rail 24 for locking the sliding sash in certain positions.
