| abstract | 1,176,346. Pneumatic tyre cords. MONSANTO CO. 2 Jan., 1967 [21 Jan., 1966], No. 155/67. Heading B7C. [Also in Division C3] A nylon polymer composition of intrinsic viscosity at least 0.85, for use as tyre cords, consists essentially of (a) a random copolymer of hexamethylene adipamide and terephthalamide (15 to 55% by weight of the latter) and (b) 1.5 to 5% by weight of a plasticizer of the formula where R<SP>1</SP> is H, alkyl or cycloalkyl and R<SP>2</SP> is H or alkyl. Several sulphonamides are mentioned; in the examples a liquid mixture of 9 to 13% by weight o- and p-sulphonamides with the balance their N-ethyl substitution products being used. They are normally added during polymerization and the use of viscosity stabilizers avoided. Optional ingredients mentioned are heat and light stabilizers, e.g. copper, pigments, e.g. TiO 2 , antifoams and antioxidants. The cards 6 are each made up by twisting a plurality of yarn ends 7 having a total denier of at least 650, each yarn end comprising a plurality of filaments of the composition. Two such twisted threadlines are plied to form a cord 6 with a total denier of at least 1300. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,020,498. |
