Sedative, muscle relaxant and anti-convulsant compositions comprise the product formed by mixing the hydrochloric acid salt of 7- chloro-1-methyl-5-phenyl-2, 3-dihydro-1H-benzdiaz [1, 4] epine and an aluminium silicate, e.g. "Albagel" or a magnesium aluminium silicate, e.g. "Veegum", in the presence of water, e.g. at 70-85‹C., there being present in the reaction mixture at least 9 parts by weight of colloid for each part by weight of benzdiazepine compound. The reaction product is of particular value in the formulation of aqueous suspensions, due to its lack of unpleasant flavour and non-irritative nature.
