titleOfInvention Process for Recovering a Hydrocarbon from a Hydrocarbon Fermentation Liquor.
abstract 1,176,110. Recovering hydrocarbon from fermentation liquor. KYOWA HAKKO KOGYO CO. Ltd. July 18, 1968 [July 22, 1967], No.34365/68. Heading C6F. Carbon source hydrocarbon is recovered, at the completion of fermentation, from a fermentation liquor obtained by culturing a hydrocarbonassimilating micro-organism under aerobic conditions in an aqueous nutrient medium containing at least one hydrocarbon (specified) as the main carbon source, by adding a hexane (n-hexane or isomers thereof) to the fermentation liquor, a concentrate of the fermentation liquor or a mixture of the hydrocarbon and the micro-organism, preferably in a proportion of at least 10% by volume, and then freezing the resultant mixture to separate the water therein. The filtrate is distilled to separate the hexane and to recover the hydrocarbon. The liquor may be taken to -10‹C. or - 20‹C. for 2 or 5 hours to freeze out the water.
