abstract | 1,173,160. Pharmaceutical preparations. J. R. GEIGY A.G. 8 Dec., 1966 [9 Dec., 1965 (2)], No. 54894/66. Heading A5B. [Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical compositions having hypoglycaemic activity comprise a compound of the general formula I wherein m and n each represent 0, 1, 2 or 3 subject to the limitation that m+n=1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, R 1 represents an alkyl group containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms, R 2 and R 3 each represent hydrogen or an alkyl group containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms or, when m is 0 and n is 2, R 2 and R 3 together may represent an ethylene group, or a non-toxic salt of such a compound together with an inert solid or sterile liquid carrier or diluent therefor. Suitable salts include Na, K, Mg, Ca, NH 4 , ethylamine, triethylamine, choline, ethanolamine, diethanolamine, diethyl-aminoethanol, ethylenediamine, benzylamine, dibenzylamine, pyrrolidine, piperidine, morpholine, N-ethylpiperidine and 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-piperidine salts and also salts with the hypoglycaemics N<SP>1</SP>-dimethyl biguanide, and N'-(2-phenethyl)-biguanide. The compositions may be administered parenterally or orally, e.g. in the form of tablets, capsules, powders and dragĂes, which may be coated with sugar or lacquer. |
