titleOfInvention Diagnostic Device for Various Sugars.
abstract 1,171,788. Detecting sugars. KABI A.B. 20 Dec., 1966 [5 Jan., 1966], No. 56973/66. Heading B1X. A diagnostic test indicator for detecting a sugar in body fluids comprises a bibulous cellulose strip having (i) a body fluid absorption portion comprising an ion-exchange material and (ii) an indicator portion impregnated with a composition comprising an oxidase specific to the sugar being tested for, peroxidase, and a chromogen oxidisable in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and peroxidase to a differently coloured oxidation product. Examples relate to determination of glucose and galactose. The ion exchange material may be an ion exchange cellulose derivative, for example cellulose phosphate or sulphate or carboxymethyl cellulose, or amino ethyl cellulose, N, N-diethyl amino ethyl cellulose (DEAE) or "ecteola-cellulose" obtained by treating an alkali metal salt of cellulose with epichlorhydrin and triethanolamine. Alternatively, the ion-exchange material may be a cellulose carrier treated with ion-exchange resin. The chromogen may be o tolidine (exemplified); o-dianisidine, mesidine, m-tolidine, benzidine, o-methylbenzidine, 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl, o, m or p phenylenediamine, 2, 3-, 2, 4-, 2, 5- or 2, 6-toluylene-diamine, pyrogallic acid, pyrogallol, gallic acid, phloroglucinol, hydroquinone, guaiacol. The indicator composition may include a hydrophilic colloid, e.g. polyethylene glycol in wt. 500 to 40,000 or egg albumin, in amount 25% to 250% of the oxidase. Other colloids are mentioned.
