titleOfInvention | Compositions for and Method of Selectively Dissolving Nickel from other Metals |
abstract | 1,171,742. Chemically stripping nickel. MACDERMID Inc. Jan. 12, 1968 [June 30, 1967], No. 1857/68. Heading C7D. An aqueous solution for dissolving a nickel deposit with or without copper from a substrate which may be copper or copper clad, has a pH of 8-11 and consists of (a) a water-soluble sodium, potassium, ammonium or lithium poly-phosphate or mixture thereof; (b) an organic oxidizing agent consisting of either a compound having at least one nitro group attached to a benzene ring which ring also carries a watersolubilizing radical, or a water-soluble nitrosubstituted aliphatic compound having 1-3 carbon atoms in the chain; (c) a base of ammonia (e. NH 4 OH), or ethylenediamine; and (d) a sodium, potassium, ammonium or lithium thiosulphate or mixture thereof. Components (a), (b) and (d) are present in amounts up to their limiting solubilities. Components (a) and (b) are preferably present in stoichiometric amounts. Specified poly-phosphates are sodium acid pyrophosphate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, ammonium-sodium pyrophosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate and sodium tripolyphosphate. Specified organic oxidizing agents are sodium nitrobenzene sulphonate, nitrobenzoic acid and nitrobenzoates, nitrophenol, nitroaniline, sodium nitrophthalate, nitromethane, nitroethane and nitropropane. |
