titleOfInvention | Hydrindacenes and process for the manufacture thereof |
abstract | 1,170,671. Hydrindacenes; hydrogenated hydrindacenes. L. GIVAUDAN & CIE S.A. 12 Jan., 1967 [17 Feb., 1966], No. 1724/67. Heading C5E. Symmetrical and asymmetrical hydrindacenes are prepared by reacting isoprene or 2,3- dimethyl-1,3-butadiene with a compound of formula where each R is H or C 1-5 alkyl, each R<SP>1</SP> is H or methyl, and where the benzene nucleus contains either at least two adjacent unsubstituted carbon atoms in which case each R<SP>1</SP> is H or methyl and R<SP>2</SP> is H, or one unsubstituted carbon atom adjacent to a labile tertiary alkyl group, in which case each R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> is H or methyl, at - 30‹ to +150‹ C. in the presence of an acidic Friedel- Crafts catalyst. The hydrindacenes may be completely hydrogenated, to form products suitable for use as jet fuels, in the presence of Raney nickel at 200‹ C. or above. |
