titleOfInvention Polyurethane Elastomer Solutions and the manufacture of Flexible Sheet Materials therefrom
abstract 1,168,070. Polyurethane coatings. KURASHIKI RAYON K.K. 26 May, 1967 [9 June, 1966], No. 11765/69. Divided out of 1165088. Headings B2E and B2K. [Also in Division C3] Porous sheet materials may be prepared from a polyurethane elastomer solution comprising a polyurethane derived from a high M.W. diol, an organic diisocyanate and a chain extender, and boric acid dissolved in an inert organic solvent, by impregnating and/or coating a substrate or by spreading and flowing the solution over a support plate and thereafter coagulating the solution by a wet process. The solution may be applied to woven or unwoven fabrics, glass plate, metal plate. Synthetic resin plate or paper and coagulated preferably in a non-solvent-solvent bath e.g. in an aqueous solution of dimethyl formamide or a solution of dimethyl acetamide in methanol. The porous sheet may be left on the substrate or stripped therefrom. In Examples the polyurethane elastomer solutions are coated over glass plate to form a film and used to impregnate and coat a needle-punched non-woven fibre sheet formed of nylon-polystyrene mix-spun fibres to form a sheet having sheepskin like properties.
