Novel 1 - (di - n - propylacetyl) - 5,5 - diphenylhydantoin (and salts thereof such as the alkali metal salts) is prepared by reacting 5,5- diphenylhydantoin and di-n-propylacetyl chloride in the presence of pyridine. The salts are prepared by treating the free acid with the appropriate hydroxide. Therapeutic compositions in the form of solutions, cachets, tablets, dragees and pills suitable for oral, parenteral and rectal administration contain the above novel compounds. The compositions are useful as anti-convulsants.
