1,166,756. Reforming. MOBIL OIL CORP. 21 July, 1967, No. 33666/67. Heading C5E. A method for preparing a jet fuel having a heating value in excess of 18800 B.T.U/1b. comprises catalytically reforming a paraffin-rich kerosene-boiling-range fraction under conditions of temperature and space velocity selected to retain at least 70% of the paraffin constituents in the feed, employing the relationship of operating conditions as represented by Fig. III for obtaining a selected aromatic to naphthene ratio in excess of 2 and removing aromatics from the reformed product in amounts sufficient to leave not more than 10% of aromatics in the paraffin-rich product. The reforming may also bring about isomerization of normal to isoparaffins and may be preceded by hydrodesulphurization and/or hydrodenitrification. Suitable reforming catalysts include platinum on eta-alumina or on silica-alumina, containing chlorine or fluorine; tungsten and/or nickel on kieselguhr; and chromium oxide on alumina. |
