titleOfInvention Process for the Production of DL-Methionine Composition
abstract 1,166,543. Feed supplement. SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 11 Aug., 1967 [11 Aug., 1966], No. 31173/67. Heading A2B. A composition, suitable for use as an animal feed supplement, consisting of DL-methionine and calcium salts of phosphoric acid is prepared by forming the calcium salt of DL-methionine during the production or refining of DL-methionine, and then reacting said salt with phosphoric acid. Thus, the calcium salt may be obtained by the hydrolysis of 5-#-methylmercaptoethyl hydantoin in the presence of calcium hydroxide in an aqueous medium, preferably at 130-250‹C. and 2.7-44 atm. Alternatively, crude DL-methionine may be dissolved with calcium hydroxide in an aqueous medium, which solution is then refined. The solution may be purified with active carbon or by filtration.
