titleOfInvention Polyurethane Elastomer Solutions and the manufacture of Flexible Sheet-Materials therefrom
abstract 1,165,088. Polyurethane coatings. KURASHIKI RAYON K.K. 26 May, 1967 [27 May, 1966], No. 24621/67. Headings B2E and B2K. [Also in Division C3] Porous sheet materials may be prepared from a polyurethane elastomer solution comprising a polyurethane derived from a high M.W. diol, an organic diisocyanate and a chain extender and a polyethylene glycol of average M.W. of 200 to 10,000 dissolved in an inert organic solvent, by impregnating and/or coating a substrate or by spreading and flowing the solution over a support plate and thereafter coagulating the solution by a wet process. The solution may be applied to woven or unwoven fabrics, glass plate, metal plate, synthetic resin plate or paper and coagulated preferably in a non-solvent-solvent bath e.g. in an aqueous solution of dimethylformamide or a solution of dimethyl acetamide in methanol. The porous sheet may be left on the substrate or stripped therefrom. In Examples, the polyurethane elastomer solutions are coated onto glass plate to form a film and used to impregnate and coat a non- woven cloth formed of mix-spun fibres of nylon-polystyrene which after coagulation is dipped in toluene to dissolve off the polystyrene.
