| abstract | 1,164,907. Fabrics coated with porous films. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 8 March, 1967 [8 March, 1966], No. 11012/67. Heading B2E. [Also in Division C3] A process for preparing a porous film of a vinyl chloride polymer on a fabric support comprises applying to the support a paste of a vinyl chloride polymer having a mean grain size of 30-100Á, a plasticiser therefor and a blowing agent, heating to cause gellation and to liberate the gas. Suitable supports are textiles, fleece, paper or wire fabrics to which the paste can be applied in a known manner, e.g. by brushing, doctoring or reverse roll coating, and can be used to provide a backing for carpets, a "breathing wall" covering, or may be used as artificial leather. The polymer may be PVC or a vinyl chloride copolymer with, for example, vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, vinylidene chloride, acrylic acid derivatives and/or methacrylic acid derivatives. Suitable blowing agents are water, aqueous solutions of ammonium carbonate and ammonium bicarbonate, or water in combination with azodicarbonamide or azoisobutryonitrile. Suitable plasticisers include esters of phthalic acid, sebacic acid, fumaric acid and/or phosphonic acid. |
