titleOfInvention | Method of Stiffening Tri-Dimensional ends of Garments |
abstract | 1,163,315. Stiffening garments. COTONIFICIO LEGLER S.p.A. 31 Oct., 1966 [3 Nov., 1965], No. 48749/66. Heading A3V [Also in Division D1] An end portion of a garment which assumes a three-dimensional form at least in wear, e.g. collar or cuff, is stiffened by incorporation therein of a stiffener which is of three-dimensional form before incorporation. To form the stiffener woven fabric e.g. cotton or cotton/polyester, is impregnated with a hardening composition, before or after cutting to a desired shape, and heated in a three dimensional mould to harden the impregnant. Example: Cotton fabric for shirt collar stiffener treated with a mixture consisting of: 200 gms of propylene urea 50 gms of polyvinyl alcohol 20 gms of starch ether 25 gms of MgCl 2 . 6H 2 O 2 gms of optical bleaching agent. is dried at 105‹C. on a tentering frame and then treated to prevent shrinkage. A collarshaped piece is cut out and hot moulded for six minutes at 160‹C. in a three-dimensional mould to the shape assumed by a collar in wear; the hardened stiffener is bonded or otherwise incorporated in the collar. Catalysts and crosslinking substances may be included in the hardening composition or added during the hardening process. |
