titleOfInvention Solvent Compositions
abstract 1,162,427. Solvent compositions for rubbers. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 27 Jan., 1967 [1 Feb. 1966], No. 4156/67. Headings C3P and C3Q. A three- or four-component solvent system, which will dissolve natural or synthetic elastomers in amounts up to 40 grams of solids per 100 millilitres of solvent, comprises from 20 to 70% by volume of methylene chloride and the balance of two or three of the following: 0 to 40% by volume of trichloroethylene, 0 to 70% by volume of 1,2-dichloroethylene, 0 to 25% by volume of ethylene dichloride, and 0 to 40% by volume of methyl chloroform provided that when neither trichloroethylene nor methyl chloroform is employed, the amount of 1,2- dichloroethylene employed is greater than 1% by volume. Suitable rubbers are neoprene, styrene-butadiene and acrylonitrile-butadiene polymers. The compositions may also contain a terpene-phenolic resin.
