titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to Stabilized Vinyl Halide Resin Compositions |
abstract | 1,161,766. Stabilizing polyvinylhalide resins. TENNECO CHEMICALS Inc. 25 Aug., 1966 [26 Aug., 1965], No. 38274/66. Heading C3P. A polyvinyl halide resin composition containing a metal silicate of average particle size from 0.5 to 50 microns filler (e.g. magnesium, calcium, magnesium-calcium, aluminium, magnesium-aluminium, or iron silicate, talc, clay or wollastonite or mixtures thereof) is heatstabilized with one or more compounds, each containing the group (e.g. melamine, methylmelamines, phenylmelamines, benzoguanamine, guanidine, dicyandiamide, or melaniline), or an acid addition salt thereof such as the carbonate, hydrochloride or sulphate). The polyvinyl halide may be the chloride, bromide or fluoride, or copolymers with vinyl acetate or propionate, vinylidene chloride, styrene, methyl methacrylate or dialkyl fumarates or maleates containing at least 70% vinyl halide may be used. At least 3 parts by weight, normally 4 to 7, of the stabilizer per 100 parts by weight of the vinyl halide resin should be used. From 50 to 600 parts by weight, preferably 100 to 400 parts, of silicate filler per 100 parts of vinyl halide resin may be used. Other fillers such as calcium or barium sulphate or carbonate, silica, titanium dioxide, iron oxide or lead chromate; plasticizers such as dioctyl or butyl benzyl phthalate, or tricresyl or cresyl diphenyl phosphate; other heat and light stabilizers; extenders; solvents; binders; or dyes may be incorporated. Translucent compositions should include as the silicate magnesium, calcium, aluminium, magnesium-calcium, magnesium-aluminium or iron silicate and as stabilizer melamine, dicyandiamide or a mixture thereof. In examples, compositions comprise (1) vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate, epoxidized soybean oil, talc or aluminium silicate, and dicyandiamide; and (2) vinyl chloridevinyl acetate copolymer, talc, cresyl diphenyl phosphate, and (a) dicyandiamide, (b) melamine, (c) barium cadmium laurate, (d) diphenyl decyl phosphite, and (e) no stabilizer. Example 3 is similar. |
