A polymerizable cyclic vinyl ether foaming composition contains a pore-size controlling additive as disclosed in Specification 1,147,476. The preferred polymerizable compositions contain (i) 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-methyl-(3,4- dihydro-2H-pyran-2-carboxylate), the trimeric aldol condensation product of 2-formyl-3,4- dihydro-2H-pyran, trichlorofluoromethane, a bisphenol, castor oil and BF 3 -diethyl etherate or (ii) 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-methyl-(3,4-dihydro - 2H - pyran - 2 - carboxylate), 2,2 - bis - (4-hydroxyphenyl)-propane, CFCl 3 , the condensation product of 2-ethylhexanol with the above-mentioned carboxylated pyran derivative, castor oil, tris-(#-chloroethyl) phosphate and BF 3 -diethyl etherate. The boron triflouride-diethyl etherate acts as a catalyst for the polymerization, while the trichlorofluoromethane acts as blowing agent and solvent.
