| abstract | 1,159,422. Coated polymer films. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 10 Aug., 1966 [14 Aug., 1965], No. 35793/66. Heading B2E. A shrinkable film having preserving properties comprises a base film e.g. of a vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride copolymer or a polyterephthalate and a coating thereon comprising sorbic acid or a salt thereof e.g. with potassium or calcium, a common binding agent and 0.1 to 10% by weight based on the coating composition of a polyhydric alcohol and/or an ester and/or ether thereof e.g. glycerol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, pentylene glycol and hexylene glycol. Common binding agents are defined as being cellulose derivatives e.g. carboxymethyl cellulose, hydrolysed starch derivatives, homo- and co-polymers of vinyl acetate, homo- and copolymers of vinyl acetate, polyacrylic acid esters, copolymers of methacrylic acid esters, polyvinyl alcohol, butadiene-styrene copolymers, polyolefines e.g. polyethylene, chlorinated polyolefines, drying oils (optionaly admixed with natural or synthetic resins), waxes, wax emulsions, resins, paraffins, fats and substances having a consistency like fats or waxes gelatine, carragenan and thickening agents. The coatings may be applied in the form of aqueous solutions or of dispersions in organic liquids. |
