titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to Durable Press Finishing of Textiles
abstract 1,159,157. Textile - treating composition. PROCTER & GAMBLE CO. 11 Oct., 1966 [18 May, 1966], No. 45416/66. Heading C3R. [Also in Division D1] A composition used in the treatment of a cotton or cotton-synthetic fibre fabric comprises one or more durable press reactants, a textile lubricant composition comprising a homogeneous water suspension of an oxidized Fischer- Tropsch wax having a chain length of 40-55 carbon atoms, a melting point of 200-220‹ F., an acid value of 10-35 and a penetration of 1-6 emulsified by (a) an emulsifying agent which is a cationic quaternary ammonium compound having the formula in which R 1 is an alkyl radical containing 14-20 carbon atoms, R 2 is an alkyl radical of 1-3 carbon atoms or a phenyl group which may be substituted with a C 1 -C 3 alkyl group or a naphthyl group, the groups R 3 which may be the same or different are alkylene groups of 2-4 carbon atoms, is 1-6, x + y is 1-7 and Z- is an anion or by (b) a mixture of the cationic quaternary ammonium compound and a non- ionic emulsifying agent whose molecule contains at least 8 ethylene oxide (C 2 H 4 O) units, the weight ratio of nonionic emulsifying agent to cationic quaternary ammonium compound being not in excess of 7: 3, the weight ratio of oxidized Fischer-Tropsch wax to total emulsifying agent being from 10: 1 to 3: 7, the textile lubricant composition being present in an amount such that the composition contains 0À2-4% of lubricant solids by weight, an acidic catalyst and a wetting agent. The durable press reactant used is dimethylol hydroxyethyl carbamate, dimethylol ethoxyethyl carbamate, dimethylol cyclic ethylene urea, dimethylol dihydroxy ethylene urea, dimethylol cyclic propylene urea or a urea-glyoxal-formaldehyde reaction product, the catalyst may be zinc chloride, zinc nitrate or magnesium chloride and the wetting agent may be an ethoxylated alkyl phenol having 6-12 carbon atoms in the alkyl group and 5-25 moles of ethylene oxide or ethoxylated aliphatic alcohol, having 8-18 carbon atoms in the aliphatic group and 5-30 moles of ethylene oxide.
