titleOfInvention Preparation of Olefins
abstract 1,153,731. Mono-olefinic hydrocarbons. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. 7 Oct., 1966, No. 44879/66. Heading C5E. Acyclic or cyclic mono-olefins are prepared by dehydrogenating the corresponding saturated hydrocarbon by contact at 200-600‹ C. with a saturated polyhalohydrocarbon having at least two halogen atoms attached to the same carbon atom, the molar ratio of hydrocarbon to polyhalohydrocarbon being at least 1À1, and recovering said mono-olefin from the reaction product. Typical of many specified starting materials are ethane, isobutane, n-heptane, n-dodecane, cyclohexane and methylcyclopentane. Typical polyhalohydrocarbons are carbon tetrachloride, trifluorobromomethane and 1-chloro-1,1,2,2,2 -pentafluoroethane.
