titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to a Process and Apparatus for the Production of Hydrogen Peroxide
abstract 1,153,430. Separating liquids. LAPORTE CHEMICALS Ltd. 27 June, 1966 [21 July, 1965], No. 31034/65. Heading B1D. [Also in Division C1] Apparatus for separating an aqueous phase, containing hydrogen peroxide, from an organic phase, comprising methyl cyclohexyl acetate and alkylated anthraquinone, comprises a chamber into which extends a partly perforated inlet tube, carrying 'two annular glass fibre cartridges, end to end and enclosed by cylinders or wrapped layers of knitted polyethylene, polypropylene or polytetrafluoroethylene. The liquids pass outwards through the cartridges and layer, whereby the aqueous phase droplets are enlarged and settle out in a downstream sump having two outlets at different levels. The cartridge pores may be 1 to 100 microns diameter, the layers may have 4 to 60 meshes per square inch. The process is applied to making hydrogen peroxide, in which the anthraquinone, which may be 2-ethyl, 2-t-butyl or 2-amyl-anthraquinone is mixed with the methyl cyclohexyl acetate and hydrogenised to form quinol which is then oxidised. The hydrogen peroxide is then extracted by contact with water, producing the mixture to be separated.
