titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to detergents.
abstract 1,153,303. Detergent composition. CHEMICAL SERVICES (PROPRIETARY) Ltd. 18 Aug., 1966 [24 Aug., 1965], No. 37066/66. Heading C5D. A mouldable detergent composition comprises (a) a detergent component intimately mixed with (6) a plasticizer, the detergent component including at least one water-soluble salt of a sulphosuccinate monoester of a radical containing an acyclic chain with from 12 to 18 carbon atoms, at least 20% by weight of the said acyclic chains having 12 carbon atoms. Ingredient (a) is an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or ammonium salt and is preferably a disodium monoalkyl sulphosuccinate, such as disodium monolauryl sulphosuccinate. Ingredient (6) is a waxy material such as a glyceryl monoester, preferably glyceryl monostearate, or any high molecular weight fatty acid ester of a polyhydricalcohol, or a paraffin wax containing a polar compound which under the conditions of use of the detergent composition will be sufficiently dispersed or emulsified. The composition may include from 40 to 95% by weight of (a) and from 5 to 60% by weight of (b), before the addition of non-essential additives such as up to 10% by weight of moisture and up to 2% by weight of the total composition of titanium oxide, in addition to perfume, colouring and opacifiers. A process for producing the said composition comprises reacting together a sulphite and a monoalkyl ester of a butenedioic acid, in the presence of a plasticizer and at a temperature at which the plasticizer is molten. The said ester may be formed by reacting a butenedioic acid or acid anhydride with at least one compound capable of reacting with an acid or acid anhydride to form an ester and containing an acyclic chain with 12 to 18 carbon atoms.
