titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the Treatment of Materials Comprising Compostible Organic Matter.
abstract 1,152,705. Deodorising gases. SIMON HANDLING ENGS. Ltd. 25 Oct., 1966 [13 Nov., 1965; 2 July, 1966], Nos. 48294/65 and 29805/66. Heading ASG. [Also, in Divisions B1 and C1] The offensive odour of exhaust gases produced in an aerobic bacterial digestion stage of a process for converting compostible organic matter into compost is removed by contacting the gases with an aqueous solution of an oxidising agent. The solution is preferably sprayed into the gas in concurrent flow therewith, and the solution may be recycled. Oxidising agents mentioned are potassium permanganate (acidic or alkaline), sodium; permanganate (acidic or alkaline), acidic calcium permanganate, acidic potassium and sodium dichromate, chromic acid, nitric acid, sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide and sodium peroxide. Two specific examples, giving temperatures, liquid flow rates and proportions of oxidising agent are described.
