titleOfInvention Photographic silver halide emulsions
abstract 1,151,782. Photographic silver halide materials. EASTMAN KODAK CO. April 15, 1966 [April 15, 1965], No. 54615/68. Divided out of 1,151,781. Heading G2C. A photographic silver salt emulsion is made by forming cores comprising grains of a first lightsensitive silver salt, treating the cores with an iridium salt and then covering the cores with a layer of a second light-sensitive silver salt. The silver salts may be halides or the thiocyanate, phosphate, cyanide or carbonate. The treatment with the iridium salt may be effected by adding an aqueous solution of the salt to an emulsion containing the grains of the first silver salt. The shells are then formed on to the cores by precipitating the second silver salt in the presence of the cores, or by allowing the cores to ripen in the presence of a previously prepared emulsion of the second silver salt. The specified iridium salt is potassium chloroiridite. After coating on to a support, the emulsion may be used to give a direct positive image by overall fogging with light followed by an imagewise exposure and processing. .
