titleOfInvention Water-soluble nitrogenous condensation products
abstract 1,146,484. Aminoplast dye-fixatives. CHEMISCHE FABRIK PFERSEE G.m.b.H. 23 June, 1966 [26 June, 1965], No. 28077/66. Heading C3R. [Also in Division D1] A water-soluble condensate is prepared by reacting together a compound of the formula R-NH-C(=NH)-NH 2 , where R is -H, -CN, -CONH 2 , -CO.CH 3 , or -C(=NH)- NH 2 , and an aqueous solution of a C 1-2 aldehyde, an ammonium salt of a strong acid, and from 0À05 to 0À25 moles per mole of the guanidine compound of a free amine containing at least one amino hydrogen atom. Preferably there are used 1À5 to 2À7 moles of aldehyde and 0À8 to 1À6 moles of ammonium salt per mole of guanidine compound. The above guanidine compounds are guanidine itself, dicyandiamide (preferred), dicyandiamidine, acetoguanidine and biguanide. Suitable ammonium salts are the chloride and nitrate. Preferred amines are di- and poly-amines, e.g. ethylene diamine, propylene diamine, diethylene triamine and triethylene tetramine; also suitable are hydroxyalkylamines, e.g. mono-, di- and trihydroxyethyl ethylene diamines or the corresponding diethylene triamines, and mono- and di-ethanolamine and -propanolamine; less preferred are, e.g. methyl-, ethyl-, propyl- or butylamines. The preferred aldehyde is 30-40% aqueous formaldehyde. In Examples dicyandiamide (1 mole) is condensed with formalin (1À7-2À2 moles), ammonium chloride or nitrate (0À8-1À3 moles) and ethylene diamine (0À1 mole), ethanolamine (0À17 mole), ethylamine (0À2 mole), or diethylene triamine (c. 0À09 mole). The products are useful as dye-fixatives.
