titleOfInvention Method for isolating tryptophan
abstract 1,145,512. Tryptophan; purification. KYOWA HAKKO KOGYO CO. Ltd. 25 Aug., 1966 [21 Sept., 1965 (2)], No. 38210/66. Heading C2C. Tryptophan is isolated from a mixture of amino acids containing tryptophan by passing said mixture through an ion exchange resin having a low degree of cross-linking, eluting the amino acids other than tryptophan with an aqueous solution of an inorganic salt as eluant, and then eluting the tryptophan with a base, if a strongly acidic cation exchange resin is used, or with an acid, if a strongly basic anion exchange resin is used. Specified inorganic salts are sodium chloride, ammonium chloride and ammonium sulphate, and the concentration of the salt solution is advantageously from 0À1 molar to 1À0 molar.
