titleOfInvention Polymer compositions containing benzothioxole stabilizing materials
abstract 1,143,278. Stabilizing olefin polymers. STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO. 21 Nov., 1967 [25 Nov., 1966], No. 52841/67. Heading C3P. Polymers of C 2-10 α-olefins are stabilized by admixing therewith a compound of formula in which R is an aromatic nucleus attached to the heterocyclic ring in the 1, 2 position and X is NH or O. The polymer may be of ethylene, propylene, 3-methylbutene-1, 4-methylpentene - 1, pentene - 1, 3,3 - dimethylbutene - 1, octene-1 or decene-1, optionally with diolefins such as cyclopentadiene and butadiene. The stabilized polymers may be used for casting, extruding, moulding or coating. Many suitable benzothioxole compounds are listed and examples describe compositions of polypropylene and (1) 4 - hydroxy - 2 - keto benzothioxole, (2) 7 - hydroxy - 2 - imino benzothioxole, (3) 4 - hydroxy - 2 - imino - 5 - chloro benzothioxole, (4) 2 - keto - 4 - hydroxy - 6 - methyl benzothioxole, (5) 4 - hydroxy - 2 - keto - 5 - chloro benzothioxole and (6) 8-hydroxy-naphtho [1,2][1,3] thioxole.
